Michael Jordan is the best

To accurately vote on this poll one must understand what all greatness entails. Stats, are big part of being a great athelete, but Michael Jordan went beyond stats. He completely rejuvinated basketball at a time when people were quickly loosing interest. He had an aura of greatness with him. From his style of play to the way he made fans feel connected to the game, he was simply great. Uncle Eli has already posted his stats, the only legitimate argument against him being the greatest player of all time is that he doesn't hold the scoring record. Kobe was not included because he is currently playing, and we honestly aren't sure he should be included in this question. In my opinion the current greatest player is probably Lebron James. While I wasn't alive or at least not very aware during Jordan's days as a basketball player, his leagacy is still present. I'm not sure about there not being good players in the 90's, Jordan's team wasn't very good. Jordan had an amazing love for the game of basketball, in one game he had the flu and Scottie Pippen literally had to carry of the court but he still competed and dominated his opponents, in his tenure with the Wizards, he scord over 50 in one game and was selected to the All-Star team, two major accomplishments for anyone, but especially when you're over 40.Kobe does not have the flash and glamour Jordan did and Lebron does. While Kobe shoots turn-arounds and fade-aways, MJ and Lebron are making defenders look silly as they drive past them for dunks and lay-ins. You don't get the nickname of His Airness for nothing. MJ was a great clutch shooter, defender and ball distributer. You also can't forget his jaunt with the Chicago White Sox, while he wasn't exactly an awesome baseball player, he was just as good as some current professionals, which is remarkable. You never see professional atheletes change sports like he did and be decent at the second sport. The Jordan brand of apparell only serves to further show his greatness, no other player in any sport that I'm aware of has had as much success selling shoes and clothing as Jordan has. I doubt any player sells as much in a year during his career as Jordan does even though his career is finished. Kobe has won a total of one championship by himself, the others were with a center named Shaquiel O'neal on his team, who was completely dominating, Robert Horry who had an uncanny knack for hitting huge three-pointers, especially against the Blazers, Derek Fisher who was also an excellent three-point shooter as well as being very capable of running the Lakers' offense and others that created more than just a supporting cast, they created a team that would have been very succesful without Kobe. Another thing is Michael Jordan didn't whine every off-season about wanting to be traded or demanding that someone else on the team be traded. Michael Jordan is by far the best, and I don't think Kobe is in the top five, probably not in the top ten. I don't think Kobe is even the best current player. The reasons Kobe isn't on the poll is one he doesn't deserve to be and two he is currently playing, we may do a poll on the best current player later in which Kobe would be included. I won't deny the fact that I don't like Kobe Bryant, I rather strongly dislike him, but as you should be able to see there are legitimate reasons why Kobe is not on the poll.

  1. I realize that Kobe is still in the middle of his career but the fact that he is so close to many of MJ's achievements with at least four good years left is a testament to his excellent ball playing ability. Also you have indicated that MJ had better ball handling skills than Kobe. This is simply not true, just watch a few clips of their various styles and Kobe obviously has more effective/impressive moves. As far as comparing him to Lebron; that is a slap in Kobe's face. Lebron is no where near the player Kobe is from his ball handling skills to his dunking there is simply no comparison. Lebron also does not have the staying power that Bryant obviously does. Bryant has 4 seasons left playing as the best player in the league and after that his decline will start. the fact is KB will never beat MJ in Finals MVP and regular season MVPs no matter how long he plays but he can and will beat his airness in championships won especially with his excellent cast of players. Also, Kobe will surpass Michael in All Star appearances, All Star MVPs, All NBA Teams and All NBA Defense teams. Honestly i like kobe for a lot of reasons and i dont know why people hate on him so much. But in this spirit of honesty i must concur that MJ was an amazing player and if you take into account the way he changed the very face of basket ball i will concede that he is probably better over all than Kobe. Sigh that was hard lol

  2. The other part that makes MJ better than KB is because he went to college. That was three more years that he could have been an All-Star and won any other accolade. On top of that if you add the time he spent in baseball you could add around five or six more years to his basketball career. If MJ would have played over 20 years in the NBA it would be a slap in the face to MJ to say that KB could even be considered have as good as he is. When KB and LJ are both retired from basketball LeBron will be considered the better player. LeBron can play any position on the court which is amazing. Twenty years from now if we had this debate between these three players (LJ, KB, and MJ) we would rank them MJ first, LJ second, and KB third. Oh yeah the other problem I have with KB is because for half of his career he was an idiot. The reason why people don't give him respect is because of all the off the court things that he has done.

  3. Michael Jordan is the Best! Though everyones arguments that he had a poor supporting cast is full of it because yeah whose scottie pippen, steve kerr, dennis rodman and the oft forgotten toni kukok so anyway regardless of all that he is still the best because of him making basketball a popular sport and being a freak of nature on the court and i still hate(extremely dislike for all you hate haters) kobe with a passion anyway go blazers

  4. MJ had a better supporting cast than KB ever had! MJ had Dennis Rodman, one of the best rebounders in modern basketball. Steve Kerr, the one who holds the NBA all time 3pt FG percentage. And Scotti Pippen, one of the best defenders of the last 2 decades. He also made more 3's than MJ (making him a better 3 shooter for he held the bulls all time 3pt FG's made mark until Ben Gordon beat it last year. And you think Derek Fisher, a guy with a toothy grin, and Robert Horry, hip checking knucklehead, are better than these guys!! Shaq was the only one to make a big difference.
Lebron in the end will be better than them all.
He came out of highschool dominating. And whoever thinks that because MJ went to college makes him bettr? KB came out of highschool and made the NBA at 17!!!
Statistically, Wilt the Stilt Chamberlain is the best player.

  5. I never said that because MJ went to college he was better. I said KB came straight out of high school and MJ didn't. That means MJ probably would have had even better stats than what he has.
